CONSTRUCTION works have started this week at the first multi-storey development in Bayswater.

JCM Property Group received approval from the Metro Central Joint Development Panel for its five-storey $2.9 million development with 17 apartments and a rooftop terrace in May 2018.

The development, named One Foyle, is located at a former carpark site at Lot 661, 1 Foyle Road.

There are four storeys of apartments, a basement, a right-of-way access for residents, cross ventilation, trees and resident and visitor car bays.

JCM Property Group director Mark D’Alessandro told the Reporter on site this morning that it had been a “long road” to reach the construction phase.

“I am really ecstatic to finally start it because it was a really long road to get here,” he said.

“It feels really good to be the first people building under the (Bayswater Town Centre) Structure Plan.

“Besides improving a derelict bitumen it is providing affordable housing options to people who want to move in Bayswater.

“Its proximity to the Bayswater train station means less reliance on cars.”

Bayswater councillor Filomena Piffaretti said in her opinion, it was great to see the first “serious investment” in the Bayswater town centre.

“I think affordable, quality housing is important for our area and this development will deliver that,” she said. The development is expected to be completed in mid to late 2020.
