Bayswater sporting associations and clubs benefit from government program

SPORTING associations have been awarded $1.3 million in funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation to improve sustainability for their members.

The funding was prepared by the State Government’s organisational sustainability program.

Western Australian Ice Hockey Association and Sporting Shooters Association of WA both received $15,000 while Rollersports Association of WA based in Bayswater was handed $22,000.

Leisure Institute of Western Australia Aquatics, a peak body representing swimming pools including Leisurepark Balga, Bayswater Waves and Maylands Water Playground, was granted $105,000.

Outdoors WA, also based in Bayswater, was rewarded $140,000.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said sport associations would be able to deliver better programs.

“We have a model where our sports run their own sustainable programs, from building grassroots participation to high performance pathways,” she said.

“Strong peak bodies mean a strong club system and a diverse Western Australian sports and recreation culture.”
