Beechboro: Recently-renovated The Overflow Cafe to continue providing work experience for local students

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

A RECENTY-renovated Beechboro cafe is cooking up work experience opportunities for local food and hospitality students.

The Overflow Cafe, located on Darwin Crescent, underwent extensive renovations thanks to a Lotterywest grant.

The renovations, including reverse cycle air-conditioning, a new barista bar, intimate function spaces and extension of the kitchen and serving area, took six months to complete.

Operations manager Kahlia Trompp said the refurbishments opened the door to the wider community.

“We believe the greater the community response the greater sense that they want us in this area,” she said.

“There aren’t many cafes in Beechboro or the surrounding areas that offer facilities like this.

“We have already received a tick of recommendation from the general public, local representatives, school teachers and parents, Brockman House and Meerilinga Children and Family Centre.”

Ms Trompp said the cafe would continue to explore opportunities with schools, seniors groups and mothers groups.

“We have had local schools in the area including Kiara College, Hampton Senior High School and Ballajura Community College send students to complete their work experience where they are trained in barista skills and food and hospitality,” she said.

“We are excited to create the opportunity for students to connect with us in the future and see a community value of honour and respect.”
