BOLD Park Community School in Wembley is expanding to the oldest heritage site in Maylands.

The school received approval from Bayswater Council last month to use the former Presbyterian Church on Seventh Avenue for its second campus.

The $2.5 million site was given to Bold Park by former owners Kids Open Learning School in 2018.

Up to 80 students from years 10 to 12 will be based in Maylands.

Based on the Reggio Emilia style of education, the school’s classroom structure involves small groups of children of different ages and teams of teachers and interns.

The school offers various programs, including music, art and nature education.

Principal Paul Whitehead said it was sad to see the Kids Opening Learning School closing and the school wanted to carry the former’s mission forward.

“We really do desire to honour the heritage of the site,” he said.

“It is an opportunity for our community to be expanding and building relationships here.

“Our year 10 to 12s have been in a really restricted space where we are at the moment.

“This does provide more space for our approach to our education.”

He said the campus was expected to open in 2020.

The school will hold an open tour on September 5.

Expressions of interest for enrolments are open.
