A BEDFORD dentist clinic will donate $2 from every appointment booking in December to the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia.

Strand Dental Centre will raise the money to go towards research and increasing awareness of the disease along with its sister clinic, Vale Dental Centre.

Dr Vilas Menon, who lost a family member to cancer last year, said everyone knew someone who has had the disease in one way or another.

“We have had at least five to 10 patients I can think of off the top of my head who have had breast cancer and some who are even having treatment as we speak,” he said.

“One in eight women in Australia develop cancer, which means that in a certain way, I think, if breast cancer hasn’t affected you personally yet, it is only a matter of time before it does.

“And for all those reasons, I felt that I wanted to do something, even if it is only small right now to contribute to getting rid of this problem and bring some awareness and much-needed money to the cause.”

Practice manager Silvana Anderson said the clinic hoped to raise about $50 a day from appointment bookings, equating to about $5000.

“We like to support the community and any type of charities we can,” she said.
