Reid Highway Bridge will help woes

The Federal Government contributed $67.2 million to the project as part of the National Partnership on Infrastructure Projects in WA.

Major Projects Minister Paul Fletcher said eight concrete bridge beams were lifted into place in one of the largest operations of its kind in Perth.

Mr Fletcher said the bridge would provide two lanes in each direction, resulting in immediate safety and efficiency gains, along with greater capacity as traffic increases in the future.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the bridge beams each weighed 175 tonnes and measured 46.8m.

West Swan MLA Rita Saffioti said the works were overdue and commuters had suffered some of the worst congestion in Perth.

“While I welcome the milestone, the dangers associated with the intersection should have been addressed years ago,” she said.
