The Bayswater resident and Edith Cowan University student, who is currently in her second year of a Bachelor of Communications degree, will learn to produce, prepare and conduct interviews, while also creating content for social media.
Ms Casey said she was excited at the opportunity to expand her knowledge in different areas of broadcasting.
“I think I’ll gain a lot of practical experience and confidence in my work and writing, and also learn new skills,” she said. “I’ll understand what journalism is really like outside of a classroom, which is exciting.”

“My grandmother was a part of the Stolen Generation and was taken away when she was a little girl,” she said.
“My family and the community in Broome keep our Yawuru language alive by teaching it to primary school students.”
ABC Radio training and development trainer Fiona Churchman said Ms Casey’s motivation to work in the media and dedication to university shone through in her interview.
“Her idea for a story to develop was impressive and showed a depth of thinking about issues beyond the normally very quick news cycle,” Ms Churchman said.
“Tillara talked about bringing a cultural lens to the ABC and wants to create balanced equality to the coverage of Aboriginal people in the media.”
Ms Casey will start her internship with ABC Local Radio Perth in late June, working initially with the producer of Gillian O’Shaughnessy’s afternoon program.
