Caversham: Autumn Wind Dojo hosting free self defence classes for women

A CAVERSHAM martial arts centre is running free self defence classes this month to help women avoid being “easy targets” for violence.

Autumn Wind Dojo will be holding a four-week program that aimed to teach awareness and victim minimisation strategies.

Director Michael Longman said the program would be held on Mondays once a minimum of six women signed up.

“A lot of my students have either witnessed violence, had suffered from it themselves or know somebody who had been a victim,” he said.

“A predator’s mindset is they want to make an easy target.”

According to WA Police crime statistics, there were 35 assaults from January to June 2017.
