THE City of Bayswater has pulled out of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council’s Resource Recovery Facility project in East Rockingham, following the Town of Bassendean’s withdrawal earlier this month.
The EMRC consists of six member councils from Perth’s eastern suburbs – the Town of Bassendean, cities of Bayswater, Belmont, Kalamunda and Swan and the Shire of Mundaring.
The RRF will deal with the household waste in rubbish bins left over after residents have reduced, re-used and recycled their waste.
At a special council meeting last Friday, the council voted 6-3 to not support the project, based on the EMRC’s absolute deadline of February 19 being not negotiable, with Councillor Brent Fleeton, Deputy Mayor Chris Cornish and Cr Filomena Piffaretti voting against.
