Steve McKinnon said the garden is targeted week after week by vandals who have ripped plants out, stolen plants and smashed a shade house structure made by volunteers.

The garden, at the corner of Diana Crescent and Arbon Way and founded in 2005, was targeted once again last week.

“We suspect there are three groups of kids that are doing it,” he said. “It is frustrating because our volunteers are putting in the hard work and it gets trashed, and it is hard enough to get volunteers.

“Volunteers have suggested putting up a fence with barbed wire around the garden or installing CCTV, but that goes against the spirit of a community garden.”

Mr McKinnon said community gardens were important and stopped some people from committing suicide.
