SEVERAL mature trees along Morley Drive in Dianella have been cut down this week.

Contractors from Jim’s Tree and Stump Removal have been removing trees on the median strip on Morley Drive, between Light Street and Alexander Drive.

This portion of Morley Drive is in the City of Stirling while the entire road is under the control of Main Roads WA.

Works on the stump of one of the trees were undertaken while one lane was closed this afternoon.

A Morley resident, who did not want to be named, said he lived nearby and noticed about four trees being removed this week.

“I guess I am just a little bit concerned about why they should be getting chopped down at all,” he said.

“They are not in anyone’s way.

“They are not going to be able to build anything there.”

He said it was upsetting to see the removals because the trees did not pose any risk.

“When they chopped it down, you can see the inside of the trees and there are no indication of termites or rot,” he said.

Main Roads have been contacted for comment.
