Council to develop street party events kit

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

ORGANISING a street party in the City of Bayswater is about to get easier.

The council unanimously supported Mayor Dan Bull’s motion at the July 9 meeting, which asked the City to develop a simplified process to enable residents to conduct open street events.

According to an officer’s report, a street party events kit could be developed such as those produced by the City of Vincent and City of Whitehorse.

The kit could include information including time-frames, necessary approvals, traffic management plans and community funding and be available on the City’s website.

Officers will assess party applications and help residents when required.

Cr Bull said an events kit would help cut red tape and let people have a party on their street.

He said street parties promoted social cohesion and celebrated micro streets.
