THE Town of Bassendean is calling on dog owners to have their say about on-leash and off-leash parks.

The Town is asking residents where they currently walk their dogs.

Feedback received will form part of a review in 2020.

There are 24 on-leash parks and 11 off-leash parks in the Town.

Mayor Renée McLennan encouraged residents to register their pet.

“Dogs play an important part in our community with dog ownership helping to reduce stress and loneliness, encourage exercise and facilitate neighbourhood interaction,” she said.

“Dog ownership also comes with responsibilities – knowing where your dog is at all times, providing an adequate fenced enclosure, giving your dog the necessary care and taking the steps to limit impact on others such as barking, picking up after your dog, keeping them on a leash when required and ensuring that they are always under your control in public places.

“We are the initial stages of reviewing our dog on and off lead areas in the Town and are starting the conversation by first seeking to understand where our residents currently walk their dogs.”

Consultation closes on January 2.
