Love and respect highlighted on Harmony Day
Fellow student Patrick Volpe, who plays Horton, said the production followed the story of Horton and his small speck of dust which contained “tiny people who lived in the town Whoville”.
“The other characters in the story, which include characters such as the Grinch and the Sour Kangaroo, all believe that Horton is crazy and that people that small could never exist,” he said.
“Horton the Elephant doesn’t care what they think and he does everything he can to protect his dust speck throughout the show.
“The entire show is narrated by the amazing Cat in the Hat, who pops up here and there.
“The main message of the show can be summed up through one of the song lyrics that Horton the Elephant sings, which is ‘A person’s a person, no matter how small’, which essentially means that in life you should respect and care for people no matter what.”
Student Georgia Unsworth, who plays Gertrude, said Seussical was a journey through Jojo’s life as he discovered the true depths of his imagination.
“The cast, the crew and orchestra all put so much effort in and they’re always there for each other – it’s like a second family,” she said.
Preparation for the show included a circus workshop.
The production runs May 8-11.
