At the November 29 special council meeting, the council agreed Mr Schneider was not required to serve out a three-month resignation period.

Mr Schneider’s last day is on December 7.

Chairman and Swan councillor David McDonnell thanked the departing chief executive for his efforts across nine years.

A recruitment committee of six councillors will manage the recruitment process which is expected to take between six and nine months to complete.

Cr McDonnell said Ms Harris would serve in the chief executive role until the process was completed.

“This decision was taken in view of Wendy’s familiarity with the EMRC’s operations, her strong advocacy skills on behalf of Perth’s East region and her well-established relationships with internal and external stakeholders,” he said.
