Effort to rescue hurt swans continues

Ballajura resident Frank Sutherland alerted NAR to the animal cruelty offence after he witnessed ‘about half a dozen’ youths deliberately fishing for birds from the rotunda near the lake.

The 75-year-old said he noticed them because they were not suppose to be on the rotunda which was blocked off due to pending reconstruction.

‘All of a sudden I see a swan going berserk and I realise what’s happened, and they’ve got him on their fishing line,’ he said.

‘Naturally once he got it in his month all he could do was flap his wings.

‘I went and told them to ‘cut it out and get off the rotunda’.
