Embleton: Sad Jane owner to bring retro fashion to Made on the Left Christmas markets

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

EMBLETON designer Lisa Estrano will be filling the hole for bright, ‘60s and ‘70s-inspired clothing and accessories in the Perth fashion scene at the Made on the Left Christmas markets.

Ms Estrano has been running her studio and store Sad Jane in Bon Marche Arcade, Perth, for four years.

She gathers fabrics from across the globe and transforms them into clothes, accessories and gifts.

She said she would have small accessories such as hair ties, headbands and stocking fillers, dresses, men’s wear and pot plant holders at her stall.

“I don’t design the fabrics myself – it is just from a bit of travelling and your normal retail shops,” she said.

“A lot of it can sit here for years before I know what I want to make with it.”

Ms Estrano said her motivation stemmed from her love for dressmaking.

“I think there is a bit of a hole in the fashion market in terms of having that kind of bright, happy, ‘60s and ‘70s influence,” she said.

“I just make things up I like and hope that other people do as well and that is what keeps me going.”

The markets will be held at Princess May Park in Fremantle from November 17 to 18.

She will also be taking part in the Perth Makers Market at Yagan Square on November 16.
