Environment manager to represent local council at world conference

CITY of Bayswater sustainability and environment manager Jeremy Maher will be flying to Sweden to take part in a worldwide conference in June 2020.

Mr Maher will represent the City at the Beyond 2020 World Sustainable Build Environment Conference after he was awarded a Perth Convention Bureau scholarship.

The conference will be attended by about 2000 delegates from academic, finance, environment and policy backgrounds.

He also took home the Australian Institute of Management WA Professional Development Award at a ceremony on June 12.

He said he was honoured to have won the scholarship.

“The Beyond 2020 conference is considered to be one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in the field of sustainable built environment,” he said.

“The conference is about planning sustainable cities and communities, and for Bayswater to be represented is a major coup for the City.

“I will have the opportunity to meet industry leaders from across the world and bring new ideas and inspiration home to the Bayswater community.”

Mayor Dan Bull congratulated Mr Maher for his leadership in environmental sustainability which led to winning several awards over the past year.

“This prestigious award and scholarship is a testament to Jeremy’s wholehearted commitment to making Bayswater a greener, more environmentally friendly place to live,” he said.

“We’ve seen the rehabilitation of Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary, two successful living stream projects, and now the revitalisation of a drainage site into a micro wetland.

“Jeremy will have the opportunity to meet with industry leaders from across the world, learn from their experience, gain new ideas and bring that knowledge home to benefit our community.

“He will also be advocating for the next Sustainable Build Environment Conference to be held in Perth.”
