THE results of Melbourne-based Locale Coffee company’s first ever espresso art competition have to be seen to be believed.

The project was launched on September 1st, encouraging coffee lovers across Australia to create their own works of art using nothing more than espresso coffee, paper and a brush.

Contestants visited a coffee outlet serving Locale espresso, where they were given a kit containing brushes and parchment alongside a ristretto (double shot) and an espresso (single shot of coffee).

They were invited to upload photos of the art with the hashtag #localeartproject to Instagram, Facebook or the Locale website.

The submissions were put before a national judging panel with the chosen pieces to be sold in an online charity auction.

The Western Australian submissions went on display, fittingly, at the Art Gallery of WA’s Arthouse Dine café on Friday to launch the online auction of the works.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Cafesmart, an initiative of StreetSmart, a charity supporting grassroots organisations working in the homelessness sector.
