SENIORS Week activities will get a boost this year with an extra $1000 going towards celebrations in Bassendean.

The Town of Bassendean received a $1000 grant from the Council on the Ageing WA after it had finalised its event budget of $4500.

Events will be held over three days during Seniors Week, which runs from November 8 to 15, including a seniors walk, a WAAPA concert and a Melody Club gala day.

Bassendean Walking Group organiser Dawne Power said the group had been involved in the annual event for a long time.

“I have been involved with the group for about 25 years and it had been running for about five years before I joined,” she said.

“The older we get, the less the group is about the fitness aspect and more about the social aspect.”

She said members who meet weekly at the Sandy Beach Reserve for a stroll, had the option of walking 500 metres or six kilometres after which there was usually time for a cuppa.
