THE Forrestfield-Airport rail link marked a major milestone today, with tunnel boring machine ‘Grace’ breaking through at Bayswater Station.

Premier Mark McGowan took to Facebook to reveal the news.

“Two and a half years ago, TBM Grace began her journey in Forrestfield to create one of two tunnels for the new Forrestfield-Airport Link as part of METRONET,” he wrote.

“Through her journey it has tunnelled underneath our airport, major roads and even the Swan River, before reaching her final journey at Bayswater.

“It is a historic milestone for our State. A major engineering feat, which we haven’t seen before in WA.

“Thank you to everyone involved, all the workers and the project team, for their commitment to this project.”

The rail link is set for completion in the middle of next year.
