A FOUR-year-old boy is in a serious but stable condition at Princess Margaret Hospital after he was hit by a car outside his home in Balga.

At just after 8pm last night, a 56-year-old man was driving a Holden Rodeo along Princess Road when the boy ran down the driveway of his home, across the footpath and on the road.

The driver stepped on the brakes but was unable to stop and avoid hitting the child.
