A MAYLANDS cafe is collecting new pyjamas for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Garden Cafe on Guildford has launched an appeal where pyjamas will be donated to women and children’s refuge Orana House in the City of Bayswater.

The refuge provides stable accommodation, advocacy and support for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.

Customers who donate new children or women’s pyjamas of any sizes will receive a free small coffee.

Owner Merrellyn O’Callaghan said she collected two baskets so far and was aiming to gather about 15 baskets worth of pyjamas.

“It will be an ongoing thing – whenever the basket fills up, we will just contact them (Orana House) to pick them up,” she said.

“I just thought it would be nice to do something for the community and for charity.

“A lot of them are escaping tough situations in their house and they turn up and they have not got much with them sometimes they have just got clothes in their back.

“(Pyjamas) are something nice and new to put on and feel special.”

Ms O’Callaghan said the appeal would continue for another month.
