BAYSWATER’S first growers’ market will be launched on September 7.

Community group Future Bayswater has gained funding from a crowd-funding campaign and Bendigo Bank to start the market, which will run every Saturday from 8am to 11.30am at Bert Wright Park.

It also received support from the City of Bayswater.

The group and Heart Inspired Events are focusing on local and fresh farmers produce, meat and seafood.

There will also be a baker, coffee, flowers, plants, gift stalls, handmade products and a chance for locals to swap their home-grown produce.

Organiser Cynthia Williamson said the markets would be plastic bag free and feature up to 40 vendors each week.

“There will be something for everyone with other attractions including giant games for children, buskers for entertainment and much more,” she said.

“Well behaved dogs on leads will also be welcome.

“We really want to get the community involved and to provide an experience that is more than just going shopping, to be able to buy direct from the grower and to get out and get some fresh air on a Saturday morning.

“We also want to provide locals with an opportunity to come along and swap produce they’ve grown in the garden and even seeds.”

Bendigo Bank senior branch manager Sean Kay said the market ticked “all of the boxes” and the bank was happy to support it.
