HAMPTON Park Primary School students dressed up as superheroes, Minions, Elsa and Dalmatians to celebrate Book Week on September 1.

Students participated in a parade, a whole school quiz, storytelling and a disco at lunchtime on the day.

During an assembly, teachers performed a play, which featured references from renowned children’s stories and dancing to hit songs.

Acting deputy principal Fiona Cunningham said it was a fun day for students and staff.

“I think they totally enjoyed themselves and it is great to see the school getting into the spirit of (Book Week) including all of the teachers and quite a few parents as well,” she said.

“We had a few run-throughs for the play and one of our music teachers wrote the script which was fabulous and all the teachers joined in.

“The dancing was great; they are not shy with dancing.”

Acting principal Jannette De Jonk said reading was one of the main focus points at the school.

“We have reading across the school, starting with an early intervention, trying to get the reading up as much as possible,” she said.

“We have guided reading and we group the kids through the school…we have library sessions and encourage the kids to speak about the books.”
