As part of the commitment, $140.6 million will go towards the Tonkin Highway redevelopment and more than $500m over 10 years for either the light rail project or the airport rail link.
According to the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport, the funding for the Tonkin Highway is a 50-50 agreement with the State Government, while the $500m would depend on what the state’s priority was.
The Tonkin Highway redevelopment will include intersections at Benara Road, Morley Drive and Collier Road designed to improve freight movements.
‘This is brilliant, it’s exactly what the City has been advocating for, for some time with great support from Stephen Smith, member for Perth,’ Cr Kenyon said.
‘This will make a huge difference to the City and to the wider Perth community and it will help ensure that our roads are less congested, safer and keep moving.
