The 22-year-old, who has been doing a traineeship at Bedford’s Chisholm College since 2009, recently took out this year’s AFL SportsReady WA Host Plus Trainee of the Year Award, beating 34 other trainee graduates.
Since graduating, he has taken up a PE assistant role at the private college.
He spends about 20 hours a week at hockey training and 30 hours teaching at school and said he was surprised by the award and was excited to share his knowledge with the future generation.
‘I was definitely surprised to win it having never really won an award like this one before, with most of my achievements coming in the sporting areas of my life,’ Mitton said.
