A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire broke out about 8pm at the ground floor unit on Australis Avenue near Alexander Drive.

A police spokesman said it appeared someone had forced entry to the unit and a fire was lit.

‘No one was home at the time,’ he said.

‘A vehicle was stolen from the residence and was later found burnt out.

‘Arson Squad detectives attended and have deemed the fire deliberately lit.’

The DFES spokeswoman said firefighters from Kiara, Malaga, Osborne Park and Perth stations had the blaze under control within 15 minutes.

Anyone with information has been asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
