Italian touch for FringeWorld in Bassendean

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

The showcase for local and international artists that boasts comedians, performers, singers, bands and burlesque will expand to the eastern suburbs in February with the Italian Live Lounge.

The brains behind the event is resident Nella Fitzgerald.

She said she wanted to “celebrate contemporary Italian music and food”, with the hopes of making it bigger and better each year.

Ms Fitzgerald has gathered a team of Italian-Australians, featuring female singer Monique Fitzgerald, a band of high calibre musicians and food and wine specialists, for the event.

It will be held at the Swan Districts Football Club.

She said guests would be “immersed” in the Italian lifestyle.

Ms Fitzgerald said the event aimed to highlight and celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity.

“Cultural diversity is an integral part of Western Australia’s social fabric and Italian Live Lounge offers an opportunity to highlight the modern evolving face of multicultural arts in WA,” she said.

“The involvement of community groups, the ability to attract audiences from marginalised ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups and the ability to make these groups feel legitimised by what they see, hear and experience in the event has immeasurable value in developing a cohesive community in Western Australia.”

Fringe World 2015 attracted more than 660,000 people to more than 500 shows across 113 venues in Perth.
