LOCAL Arts and Community Events (LACE) has been given permission to host the next instalment of the successful Maylands Hawkers Markets and Barkfest.

At a City of Bayswater council meeting last week, council gave permission for the group to use The RISE and Riverside Gardens, respectively.

The fourth season of the Maylands Hawkers Markets will be held at the public open space and amphitheatre from December to February, subject to a host of conditions.

However, councillor Michelle Sutherland said there were ongoing issues with parking during the markets.

“People having a function at The RISE on a Saturday night, paying good money and can’t get a park,” she said.

The City director said any bookings made at The RISE were informed about market dates and that LACE provided a parking marshall.

Maylands business owner Dominic Cuscuna said the parking shortage had a significant impact on local businesses and customers.

Passed at the same meeting, LACE will host the second annual Barkfest in November.

The City will offer in-kind support including parking signage and six wheelie bins.
