Man charged with stealing gold bar from Perth Mint

A Ballajura man (25) who was contracted to the Perth Mint Refinery has been charged with stealing a 1kg gold bar, worth more than $50,000, from the Mint.

On April 7 The Perth Mint noticed a gold bar was missing and began an internal security inquiry.

The matter was referred to WA Police’s Gold Stealing Detection Unit.

A search warrant was executed at the man’s Ballajura address on 11 April 2017.

He has been charged with stealing as a servant and gaining benefit by fraud.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
