POLICE are calling for public assistance after a Maylands living room was damaged by fire at the weekend.

Sometime between 8pm Saturday night and 11.10am Sunday morning, police said they believe unknown people started a fire that caused $50,000 worth of damage to a Sixth Avenue unit.

At 11.10am yesterday police and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services were notified of the fire that went out by itself.

The fire was contained to the living room and smoke damage was caused throughout the unit.
