Nicola Farquhar-SmithEastern Reporter

MEMORIES of Mauritius inspired the style of dance that Yannick Benoit will bring to Morley this weekend.

The annual multicultural community concert will include talented performers from Bollywood dance group Maitri, Balinese dance group Enda Partington and Yanique Dance Fusion.

Inglewood resident Mr Benoit, the founder of Yanique Dance Fusion, was born in Mauritius before his family moved to Kalgoorlie.

He said it was a complete cultural shift and he clung onto Sega music for links to his Mauritian culture.

Mr Benoit was determined to run fun Conga, Zumba and Sega classes, all of this while being a clinical nurse during the day.

He has danced all over the world including Tahiti, Malaysia and New York, where he learnt different styles that he brought to his classes.

“There is something very organic about learning different styles of dancing from cultures,” he said.

At the concert, Mr Benoit will be doing a Zumba and Conga demonstration as well as a Mauritius Sega demonstration.

The multicultural community concert will be held at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre on Sunday, June 11 at 2pm.

The concert is free but has limited seats; contact the City of Bayswater on 9272 0622.
