Bayswater Men’s Shed is recruiting members

Lauren PilatEastern Reporter

The steering committee will be replaced at the AGM with a member-elected management committee to carry on the process of establishing the shed. Steering committee member Harry Porrins said before the AGM the group needed financial members, with only financial members able to vote.

“The more members we can sign up prior to the AGM shows the City (of Bayswater) that there is a real need for an operational Men’s Shed in Bayswater,” he said.

“Discussions continue with the City of Bayswater to lease the shed at the corner of King Street and Raymond Avenue. The formal application to lease these premises is being compiled to meet the city’s procedural requirements and will be lodged before November 1.

“The application is required to be assessed by various departments and committees prior to being presented to the full council for approval at the December meeting.”

Mr Porrins said the shed would need work, including a power upgrade and mandatory disabled facilities, before the group could occupy it so it may not be accessible until early next year.

A yearly membership costs $70, with $20 paid as a deposit as the shed will not be available immediately, with the balance paid when the shed is accessible.
