Mirrabooka Primary to undergo name change to Dianella Primary College from next year

MIRRABOOKA Primary School will become Dianella Primary College in 2017 to join the new Dianella school precinct.

This comes after Mirrabooka Senior High School and Mirrabooka Education Support Centre announced they would also change their name from Mirrabooka and Dianella.

Mirrabooka Primary School principal Anthony Middleton said the name change would strengthen the Dianella precinct hub and maintain its relevancy in the community.

“ The reasons are directly reflected by the community we are actually in, the fact that we are actually situated in the suburb of Dianella,” he said.

“If you are in the suburb of Dianella, in which our school is located, you will be going to a school that is named in your suburb instead of going to one named after a different suburb.”

Mr Middleton said new uniforms would be rolled out next year.

“The uniforms will be replaced but we do not expect parents to go out and buy new uniform,” he said.

“We will be maintaining the shorts and the skirts, so we are trying to minimise change as much as we can and also cost.”

Mr Middleton said parents were supportive with the name change.

“We will have some consultation with the parents about colours and they will choose but we also want something that is quite a bit more durable,” he said.

“The parents have all been very supportive, we surveyed the parents through our school app, through the newsletter and the P&C meetings and the parents have been quite supportive of the name change.”
