Kristie LimEastern Reporter

MORLEY MLA Amber-Jade Sanderson has sympathised with the family and friends of the Bedford family who were killed in their home.

Ms Sanderson said as a mum and a long-time member of the community, she was “deeply shocked” by the tragedy.

“The murder of these innocent children, their mother and grandmother is incomprehensible,” she said.

“Many of us, locally, will be affected by this tragedy particularly those close to them.

“My deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Beverley, Mara, Beatrix, Alice and Charlotte.”

Ms Sanderson said family violence could have “devastating” consequences.

“While the courts will decide the facts around this particular case, the sad reality is that family violence is in every community,” she said.

“We all need to start changing the conversation around family and domestic violence, including calling out behaviour that gives licence to it.

“There is much work being done by government, but it is up to us all to make the changes necessary to keep women and children safe in their own homes.

“We must come together as a community and support each other, to learn and heal from this terrible event.”

She urged people to call 1800 RESPECT if they were experiencing violence or 000 if they were in immediate danger.
