A NEWLY-formed community group is aiming to create an art trail to connect the whole of Morley through a City of Bayswater grants program.

Morley Momentum, formed in March, will be applying for the City’s Placemaking Seed Fund program which supported community-led initiatives that will add vibrancy to public places.

Community groups have until June 8 to apply for grants worth $1000, $2000 or $3000 on the City’s website.

The group also recently finished a mural on Progress Street.

Member Giuseppe Russo said the grant program provided opportunities for the group to bring arts, vibrancy, culture and events to Morley.

“We have got potential to do things that other communities haven’t done,” he said.

“We want to make an art trail that will take you through the whole of Morley to connect it because at the moment, Morley is quite disconnected due to the commercialisation of Morley.

“It is difficult to connect everything so the art trail, we hope to lead the public to use spaces that aren’t used.”

Mr Russo said the group would like to gain support from local businesses for projects.

Fellow member Jess Hunt said there were plans to plant vertical gardens next to Chatters Restaurant and installing planters, colour and seating in the green space outside Morley Library.

Member Steven Ostaszewskyj said the group was planning a business event at Varsity Project in mid-June.

Mayor Dan Bull said the grants would build on recent momentum of residents submitting their own placemaking ideas in the City’s four major town centres.
