A police spokeswoman said the 40-year-old woman was walking home along Bennett Springs Drive about 8.30am after dropping her child off at school when a man walked past her.
She continued walking when she heard the man running up behind her, the spokeswoman said.
She turned around and the man punched her to the face. She attempted to defend herself as the man continued to punch her.
She fell to the ground and the man ran off.
Police and St John Ambulance officers attended.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said the woman was taken to Swan Districts Hospital with head and facial injuries.
The man was described as dark skinned, 20-30 years old and was wearing a light blue shirt, three-quarter length coloured pants and thongs/slippers.
