NBN Co seeks skilled workers to construct national network in Perth

NBN Co is seeking thousands of skilled workers as construction of the National Broadband Network ramps up in Perth.

The company has launched a nationwide search aimed at job seekers who have more than three years experience in related industries including motor vehicle manufacturing, mining, road and bridge construction, boat building and electricity distribution.

WA corporate affairs manager Ebony Aitken said this was NBN Co’s biggest year yet in construction and service activation and it was vital to have enough people to construct the network as the rollout pace increased.

“Several thousand skilled workers are needed to build, operate and maintain the NBN network,” she said.

“It’s a massive job that we estimate needs the current workforce to almost double in size during our peak construction period.

“We will be accelerating the build and connection rates to new records and that’s why we need more workers than ever before to help us connect Australia.”

No direct telecommunications experience is required and successful candidates will have access to training and industry recognised competencies.

The company anticipates there will be long-term employment opportunities once the network build is complete.
