The number of bays will be increased from 239 to more than 450.

The work will also include new lighting, CCTV cameras to help improve safety and landscaping.

As part of the upgrade, an additional four ACROD bays will be constructed, taking the total number at the train station to 10.

Work at the station is expected to be completed by August.

Bassendean Mayor John Gangell said the train station was an extremely popular park and ride destination, and the extension was long overdue.

‘I thank the long-suffering residents of Bassendean for their patience with this project and now they can look forward to having their streets largely free of on-road parking with the creation of these additional bays,’ he said.

East Metropolitan MLC Donna Faragher said the work was part of the Government’s $8.35 million Car Park Upgrade program.

‘I believe that once completed, this will be a very welcome upgrade for those who use the train network on a regular basis, as well as nearby residents,’ she said.
