COUNCILLOR Barry McKenna is the new City of Bayswater mayor after fellow council representatives voted for him at a Special Meeting on Monday.
Cr McKenna entered local government in 1991 as a Central ward councillor and became deputy mayor in 2009 before re-elected to the position in 2011.
He was awarded a Freeman of the City in 2011 in recognition of his 20 years of service to the Bayswater community and the broader regional community and in 2003 the Meritorious Service Award.
Councillors voted 7-4 at the October 19 meeting in favour of Cr McKenna becoming mayor over Cr Kenyon, who was mayor in 2011
At the same meeting, Cr Stephanie Coates was voted in as deputy mayor 6-5 over Cr Chris Cornish.
