No decision on car park: Bassendean

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

Bassendean MLA Dave Kelly this month sent a letter to Mr Day urging him to consider the purchase of lots 5 and 6 Old Perth Road to revitalise the carpark next to The Bassendean Hotel.

Mr Day’s spokeswoman said it would be too early for any portfolio to comment.

Mr Kelly said this response was “very disappointing”.

“Of course the revitalisation of the station end of Old Perth Road is a planning issue,” he said.

“John Day as Planning Minister is happy to talk about the Government’s efforts at Elizabeth Quay. I think he is just passing the buck to avoid the issue.”

Mr Kelly said he also sent the letter to Housing Minister Colin Holt, but had not had a response. “I will write to the Premier about the issue and let him sort out which minister should handle it,” he said.

Real estate agent Gerald Morgan said the hotel was safe from developers because the potential buyer would also be buying the hotel lease.

Hotel co-owner Stefano Rossi said he was not against the development of the car park as long as it was in the character of the street.
