No funds in budget ‘lame’

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

Councillor Paul Bridges queried the missing funds at a special council meeting on July 7 to pass the budget.

The town aims to establish a River Parks Management Committee to prepare the management plan for the Ashfield Flats and has invited representatives from State Government water and planning departments and the Swan River Trust to join.

Cr Bridges noticed money had not been set aside in the budget despite the council in September 2014 carrying a motion to have funds considered.

He said it would be "lame" to establish the committee without allocating money in the budget to proceed.

Mayor John Gangell suggested waiting to allocate funding until after the committee was established.

He said the town was still waiting on expressions of interest from the government departments approached to join the committee.

It was decided the funding could be revisited at the February budget review.
