THE award-winning Perth Harmony Chorus is launching a six-week barbershop singing program for newcomers.
The Nollamara-based chorus, formed 30 years ago, has won nine national titles with the latest in 2016.
The chorus also represented Australia in Las Vegas at the Sweet Adelines International Chorus Competition in 2017.
Chorus director Carole Macintyre said it had been a few years since the chorus ran a program to attract new members.
“Having returned from competition in Hobart in May, we now have the time to focus on offering women an opportunity to sing and develop an understanding of the barbershop style of a cappella music,” she said.
“We are aiming for 20 to 30 ladies joining the program, but can accommodate higher numbers if needed.
“We currently have around 70 active singers in the chorus, ranging from teenagers to ladies in their 70s.”
She said the goals of the program were to offer women an opportunity to sing and to potentially get them to audition for the choir.
The choir’s next show will be an intimate dinner show in October.
