Nollamara: respects paid at Battle of Long Tan 50th anniversary do

SOME 60 people marked the 50th anniversary of Vietnam War’s Battle of Long Tan at touching ceremony held in Nollamara last night.

TS Marmion Cadets formed a catafalque part at Returned and Services League Nollamara Sub-branch’s commemoration.

Secretary Bob Wise said they remembered diggers who did not survive and those who did.

The Last Post, Reveille and National Anthem were played and attendees observed a minute’s silence.

Vietnam veteran Doug Fieldhouse who served in the “pig battalion” in 1967-68 and 1970-71, said it was sad to remember old mates from the war.

Many of Nollamara’s sub-branch’s 249 serving members are Vietnam War veterans.

Veterans Motorcycle Club and Military Brotherhood members attended the service.
