Noranda: Camboon Primary School aims to improve donated nature play space

CAMBOON Primary School in Noranda is continuing to improve its nature play area, which features specially-moulded tree logs donated by a private business.

Kennedy Tree Services, which performs maintenance works at schools, gathered spare logs, moulded them into shapes and transformed an unused area next to the early childhood classrooms into a play area last term.

This followed a playground survey conducted for students last year.

Principal Janice Cuculoska said investigations after the survey found building a nature playground was too expensive.

“For us, we are part of the community but we want the community to be part of us as well,” she said.

“Kennedy Tree Services are a business but they have just gone above and beyond what I had even imagined. What I wanted to do over the next few weeks is eventually get each class and take them out there and get them to see it.”

Ms Cuculoska hoped to incorporate a wagon with dress-up materials, technological devices, recyclables and reusable goods for students to use their creativity.

Kennedy Tree Services arborist Robin Booth said the project was bigger compared to his usual assembling and moulding work for other schools.
