Bayswater residents Marlon Cobby-Sim (8) and Mitchell Sim (9) spent their school holidays drawing pictures, before they put together a pop-up garage exhibition to sell their masterpieces.

Marlon’s mother Belinda Cobby said the Year 4 students were “quite affected” by the coverage of the bush fires.

Ms Cobby said the boys watched how-to-draw online tutorials and spent a lot of the school holidays drawing characters from their favourite TV shows, films and books.

The pair came up with the idea of a fundraiser and transformed Marlon’s garage into a makeshift exhibition, cleaned out the space, painted white boxes and selected 50 of their best drawings.

The pop-up was attended by school friends and neighbours and raised $130 for the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.
