Held on Wednesday, March 5, the event was attended by more than 80 women who walked along Sudbury Road into Mirrabooka Square shopping centre where shoppers clapped and took photos.

Women held colourful parasols, which has become an Ishar IWD tradition, and were dressed in national costumes in support of a culturally diverse community.

Ms Freeman said it was important to recognise the event as a visual representation of why the world recognises women’s contribution to the wellbeing of the community.

‘Women’s participation in the workforce, community and in our families has ensured that Australia has a thriving economy and a society that values equity for all,’ she said.

The event marked the launch of Ishar’s gender policy that was created to advocate support, empower and encourage women to recognise equality in society.

The march ended at the Herb Graham Centre in Mirrabooka where women were greeted by Ishar chief executive officer Andrea Creado, Minister for Women’s Interests Lisa Harvey, North Metropolitan Region MLC Liz Behjat and Mirrabooka MLA Janine Freeman.
