The program is based on establishing Perth’s first Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) and commitment from employers prepared to guarantee paid work to participants.

The inaugural VTEC is led by AtWork Australia with Polytechnic West the premier training provider.

Polytechnic West education and industry services general manager Blair Marsh said Aboriginal employment outcomes were a key strategic priority.

‘The program provides a clear pathway that allows participants to build their skills through a combination of on- and off-the-job training, culminating in employment,’ he said.

The first 25 students completed a five-week employment readiness course, after which they can progress to traineeships and Certificate II and III qualifications.
