SNAGS, steaks and charcoal roasts will soon be firing up at Perth BBQ School’s first permanent home in Maylands.
The school has been running classes at Varsity Morley for more than two years.
It received approval from Bayswater Council this month to transform the former pet cafe site at 195 Guildford Road into a cooking school and shop.
The school will only cater for booked classes, while the shop will sell barbecue-related goods and accessories from Wednesday to Sunday.
The outdoor area at the back of the building will be used as an alfresco barbecue area.
Owner Angus Gallagher, of Belmont, said it was great to have a “forever home”.
“The core class that we have always done has been the charcoal fundamentals class which teaches people about how to cook on charcoal; everything like grilling, slow-cooking, smoking and roasting,” he said.
“I’m always cooking something different.
“You can’t beat a really good steak and I’m also known for my burgers.”
Mr Gallagher loved teaching people how to be “masters of their own backyards”.
“It is getting a lot of guys who don’t do a lot of cooking at home at the moment and actually show them how easy it is,” he said.
His top tips were patience, relax and enjoy and buy the best quality and affordable meat.
He expected to open the school by the end of the year.
